Brentford manager Keith Andrews has insisted he remains calm amid growing speculation over the future of in-form striker Igor Thiago, following fresh reports linking him with moves to both Manchester United and Chelsea this summer.
Thiago, who arrived in the Premier League with considerable expectations, has quickly lived up to the hype with a series of powerful, dynamic performances that have made him one of Brentford’s standout players this season.
His blend of physicality, technical ability, and relentless work rate has caught the attention of several top clubs, with Manchester United and Chelsea understood to be monitoring him closely as they assess striker targets ahead of the next transfer window.
Speaking ahead of Brentford’s weekend fixture, Andrews appeared unfazed by the situation, noting that interest in his best players is a natural consequence of success: “We are a little bit of a part of that journey that he’s been on,” Andrews said.
“We feel very attached, we’re so close to him and his journey and the steps that he’s made this season in particular. The public eye, his game and his goals and the type of person he is that everyone’s seeing now, it’s a lovely feeling.
“[Interest from other clubs] will be just the natural way of the footballing world. We’ve got a striker who’s playing particularly well in the best league in the world and scoring substantial goals.
“We’re very hopeful that he will go to the World Cup. Obviously it’s a dream for him to represent his country, which we’ve touched on before.
“And if he gets chosen, we’ll be really proud of him.”
United and Chelsea are both expected to target a new centre-forward this summer, with each club eager to secure a physically dominant, hard-working striker capable of fitting into long-term tactical plans. Thiago’s profile has made him an increasingly attractive option.
