Bruno Fernandes staying at Man Utd relies on Ineos keeping their'promise'this summer

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has always been transparent about what he wants in order to stay at Old Trafford.

Last summer, Bruno Fernandes rejected a £100m Saudi move and stayed loyal to Manchester United.

However, Fernandes did lash out at United chiefs, claiming he felt unwanted by the club hierarchy, who were ready to cash in on the Portuguese playmaker.

Ineos will be thankful that Bruno Fernandes did stay, however, as he is now chasing the Premier League Player of the Season award as a result of his outstanding performances in 2025/26.

Building around Fernandes is the top priority, but to keep him at Old Trafford, Ineos need to deliver in the summer transfer window.

Bruno Fernandes demands ‘promise’ from Ineos

Vice-captain Harry Maguire has predicted a ‘big’ summer for United when it comes to transfer business, and it seems the senior players in the squad are applying pressure for big signings to arrive.

Fernandes and Maguire want competitive signings, and it seems Ineos will have to deliver if they want to keep the Red Devils captain at the club.

In an interview with The Times, Fernandes said: “What I always say to the club is, you can’t promise me I’m going to win the Premier League, that’s impossible.

“But if you promise we’re going to be competitive — that’s all I need to know.”

Fernandes is targeting a Premier League title, more than any financial or individual reward. That is the key to Ineos keeping him at Old Trafford, and it is up to United’s transfer chiefs to deliver.

How Man Utd can become Premier League title challengers

The resurgence under Michael Carrick this season has proven that Manchester United are not as far away from challenging from the title as many thought at the start of the season.

It is no secret that United need a midfield overhaul, and it will arrive this summer. Ideally, United need at least two top-class midfielders to arrive.

Elliot Anderson is the top target, and if United can beat Manchester City to his signature that is a huge show of intent to the first-team squad that Ineos are going all out for a title challenge.

Alongside Anderson, United will likely need another top-class midfielder. Sandro Tonali, Carlos Baleba, Alex Scott and Adam Wharton are all on the transfer radar.

Extra depth at left-back and on the left wing will also be needed if United want to compete on multiple fronts next season. If Ineos deliver, Fernandes will be happy and a Premier League title charge can follow.
