Chelsea player ratings vs Man City, Moises Caicedo has nightmare but 7/10 Rosenior experiment works

Chelsea’s Champions League hopes have been handed a damning blow by Manchester City. Let’s take a look at our player ratings for the game.

Liam Rosenior’s side were completely outclassed by City in the second half, as Nico O’Reilly, Marc Guehi and Jeremy Doku scored in quick succession.

The Blues’ attack completely faded away in the second half, with their best chance falling to Marc Cucurella in the first half, although his strike was ruled out for offside.

What is Chelsea’s best centre-back partnership?

Fofana and Hato couldn't stop City.

Rosenior took a risk by starting Jorrel Hato at centre-back, although this decision paid off as the Dutchman hardly put a foot wrong.

Let’s take a look at The Chelsea Chronicle’s player ratings for the game…

Robert Sanchez: 5/10

Nothing Robert Sanchez could do about the first goal, but perhaps should have done more to deny Guehi from adding to the lead quickly after.

Malo Gusto: 6/10

Was constantly under pressure from Doku, however stood up to the task well and nullified a large portion of City’s attack.

Wesley Fofana: 6/10

Impressed in the first half by keeping Erling Haaland very quiet, but the pressure was too much on the Chelsea defence

Jorrel Hato: 7/10

Hato made a super tackle to deny Erling Haaland what looked a certain goal early in the first half, and overall impressed in his second position after being given the nod by Rosenior.

Marc Cucurella: 7/10

One of the more impressive Chelsea players throughout, keeping former transfer target Antoine Semenyo relatively quiet.

Moises Caicedo: 2/10

Looks a fair way away from the dominant midfielder he was in the first few months of the season. Moises Caicedo struggled under pressure when in possession, capped off by his error for City’s third goal.

Andrey Santos: 4/10

Was outmuscled by O’Reilly for the opening goal, taking away from what had been a promising performance in the absence of Enzo Fernandez.

Cole Palmer: 5/10

Looked bright early on and more than up for the fight against his former side, but his impact dwindled as the game went on.

Pedro Neto: 6/10

Strong first half but faded away alongside the rest of his Chelsea teammates as the game slipped away from them in the second half.

Estevao Willian: 4/10

Struggled to make any real impact on proceedings, and picked up a needless booking for booting the ball away early on.

Joao Pedro: 6/10

Looked strong whenever he had the chance to be on the ball, and thought he had single-handedly created a goal for the Blues when Cucurella was flagged offside.

Alejandro Garnacho: 5/10

With Chelsea’s attack out of the game upon his arrival, there was not much Alejandro Garnacho could do.

Romeo Lavia: 6/10

Game was over seconds after he came on when Doku made it 3-0.

Liam Delap: N/A

Dario Essugo: N/A

Josh Acheampong: N/A
