Arsenal have identified Como manager Cesc Fabregas as their ‘ideal’ candidate to replace Mikel Arteta if he fails to deliver silverware this season, according to reports in Spain.
The north London side have not ruled out parting ways with the Spanish manager should he fall short of either Premier League or Champions League glory and have started drawing up contingency plans.
While Arsenal remain favourites to finally lift their first English title since 2004, Saturday’s 2-1 loss to Bournemouth has given rivals Manchester City fresh hope.
Pep Guardiola’s side already beat the Gunners in the Carabao Cup final in March. Last week, Arsenal ended their treble hopes following an FA Cup quarter-final loss to Southampton.
Arsenal Keen on Appointing Cesc Fabregas
COMO CESC FABREGAS
According to Mundo Deportivo, Arsenal view Fabregas as the ‘main candidate’ to replace Arteta after the season should he fail to lead the Gunners to either the Premier League or Champions League trophy.
Despite having a contract until June 2027, Arteta’s future could take a ‘drastic turn’ if he ends up overseeing another trophyless campaign in charge of the north London side.
Fabregas has an obvious advantage over other potential Arteta successors, as he knows the club well from his eight-year stint as a player from 2003 to 2011.
The 38-year-old manager has turned heads at several European clubs amid his promising second season at Como, who sit fifth in Serie A with seven games remaining.
Fabregas is under contract until the summer of 2028, meaning Arsenal would likely have to pay compensation to the Italian club if they were to appoint the Spaniard.
Borussia Dortmund Keen on Nwaneri
ethan nwaneri
Arsenal forward Ethan Nwaneri is the subject of interest from German giants Borussia Dortmund ahead of the summer, GIVEMESPORT journalist Ben Jacobs has revealed.
The Bundesliga club are looking to add a versatile attacker this summer and have identified Nwaneri as a target along with Aston Villa star Jadon Sancho.
Nwaneri is currently on loan at Marseille and, despite only signing a new five-year contract in August last year, is potentially available on the market.
Although an exit is not guaranteed, Arsenal are open to offers for the promising winger, who has struggled for opportunities following Noni Madueke and Eberechi Eze’s arrivals last summer.
