Chelsea interested in signing Man City player who could replace Enzo Maresca favourite - journalist

Chelsea lost 3-0 to Manchester City on Sunday, with Nico O’Reilly scoring his side’s first goal.

O’Reilly has been linked with a move to Chelsea, who could soon find themselves in the market for a new left-back. Marc Cucurella is approaching the final two years of his contract and has not ruled out a return to Barcelona.

O’Reilly does not appear to be the only City player on Chelsea’s radar, however.

Who is Chelsea’s best goalkeeper?

Chelsea interested in signing James Trafford

Robert Sanchez was a key player under former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca and remains the team’s first-choice goalkeeper. That may not be for much longer, though, with the Blues said to be showing interest in City’s James Trafford.

Journalist Simon Phillips has claimed on Si Phillips Talks Chelsea that the Club World Cup winners are monitoring Trafford’s situation at the Etihad ahead of potentially making a move for him in the summer.

City only signed Trafford from Burnley last summer, but they quickly brought in Gianluigi Donnarumma afterwards.

It resulted in Trafford dropping down to the bench and becoming City’s second-choice goalkeeper, which the 23-year-old would not have been expecting.

Trafford has made just three starts in the Premier League this season, with the Englishman firmly behind Donnarumma in the pecking order.

Donnarumma was worried about playing at Stamford Bridge on Sunday but had a relatively comfortable afternoon in the end.

Why Chelsea should hold off move for James Trafford

With neither Sanchez nor Filip Jorgensen managing to convince this season, Chelsea may very well be tempted to make a move for Trafford this summer if the former Burnley man is available.

However, in Mike Penders, they already have a young goalkeeper who has a lot of potential.

Considering that, the Blues would be better off giving him a chance and then using Sanchez or Jorgensen as a No.2. Of course, they may not be willing to accept that, so Chelsea’s overall goalkeeper situation will be something to keep an eye on in the summer.
