Bruno Fernandes has explained why Manchester United’s pursuit and hunger for major silverware is an all-important aspect for any major signing arriving at the club.
The 31-year-old Manchester United captain has been limited in his silverware haul at Old Trafford after his stunning 2020 arrival from Portuguese outfit Sporting CP.
Bruno Fernandes’ only trophies at the Premier League club came under the reign of Erik ten Hag, with the Red Devils skipper lifting an FA Cup and a Carabao Cup.
However, the United and Portugal midfielder fell short of the Europa League trophy on separate occasions under managers Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ruben Amorim.

However, the Red Devils have struggled to lift a consistent stream of major silverware since Sir Alex Ferguson retired as Man Utd manager in 2013.
Speaking to The Times, Fernandes made his feelings perfectly clear that he has told Man Utd about his desire to challenge for major silverware on all fronts in a season.
“I tell the club I want to compete,” he said.
“Everyone [who] comes to Man United wants to win every trophy. No-one thinks in coming to the club that we’re going to fight for one or two trophies in six years.
“You want to fight for all of them.”

Bruno Fernandes thinks the hunt for major silverware is a make-or-break factor for him at Man Utd
Fernandes has enjoyed a superb second half of the 2025-26 campaign at Old Trafford since Michael Carrick was appointed as interim Red Devils head coach.
While Man Utd are pushing for a top-four Premier League finish this season, Fernandes’ focus remains on winning more silverware with the Red Devils.
“And what I said to the club every time that I spoke with them, what I want from the time I’m here, I want to compete,” Fernandes continued.
“Because if I compete, I will be close to winning. If I don’t compete, there’s no chance I’m going to get close to anything.”
Fernandes has picked up an impressive 17 assists and has netted eight times in 30 matches across all competitions in the 2025-26 campaign at Old Trafford.
