Chelsea are continuing to monitor Jan Paul van Hecke, with fresh reports suggesting the club are weighing up a summer move for the Brighton & Hove Albion centre-back.
Van Hecke has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign, becoming a regular starter and impressing with his composure in possession, aerial ability, and positional awareness. His development has been closely watched by several Premier League clubs, but CHELSEA are understood to be among the most active admirers as they plan further defensive reinforcements.
Brighton head coach Fabian Hürzeler has now addressed the growing speculation, confirming that discussions over the defender’s future are expected. While stopping short of indicating any imminent departure, Hürzeler acknowledged that conversations between the club and the player will take place in the coming weeks.
Speaking to media, Hürzeler emphasised Brighton’s desire to retain their top performers but admitted that interest from bigger clubs is a natural consequence of strong individual displays. He reiterated that the club will handle the situation internally, suggesting that any decision will be made collaboratively with van Hecke and in line with Brighton’s long-term plans
“I love Jan Paul,” Hürzeler said in a press conference. “I love his attitude, how he works for the team, I love his mentality of winning. He has a big impact on his teammates; therefore I would love to continue working with him, because we have a really good relationship.
“I also like some perspective from the players regarding their future,” Hürzeler added. “We will sit together, try to make a decision that is best for the club, that is best for the player. Jan Paul knows what he has with Brighton. He’s always had the opportunity to play, to grow, to make the next step.
“We hope to make the next step together, to be successful with him. This will be our main challenge and then we see how it’s going.”
