Journalist Liam Twomey has been explaining why Chelsea never tried to sign Marc Guehi and Antoine Semenyo.
These were two of the players who helped destroy them in the second half of the 3-0 home defeat against Manchester City yesterday, but Chelsea were heavily linked with both players before they ended up joining City.

In the end, Chelsea never really pushed to sign them, and Twomey says it’s because they didn’t want to match their wage demands.
But of course, if you want the best players, you have to pay the best wages – and hereby lies the biggest issue with BlueCo’s failing Chelsea project right now.
Twomey on Guehi and Semenyo
Marc Guehi signs for Man City.
Writing on The Athletic today, Twomey said:
‘Man City lined up at Chelsea with two January signings, Antoine Semenyo and Marc Guehi, whom Chelsea ruled out trying to sign on salary grounds.’
We will not be able to compete with the big clubs if we are not going to compete on wages for the big players. It’s as simple as that.
