However, no amount of heavy intensity training can replicate the atmosphere of an actual game, which is where United missed a trick.
A friendly game should have been arranged against a side in Ireland to get some minutes into the players’ legs.
The standard of opposition didn’t matter, as the objective was simply to get the brain used to playing football again.
It sounds awfully simple, but it’s true, because match sharpness is not something you can account for in data and statistics.
