'I don't know':£60m Premier League star keeps door ajar after being linked with Chelsea move

The goalkeeping situation at Chelsea will be an intriguing one this summer as Liam Rosenior and the club’s hierarchy consider a possible new signing, like Sunderland’s Robin Roefs.

Robert Sanchez has failed to remove the errors from his performances. Despite a decent showing against Man City on Sunday, the chances are the Spaniard will be replaced come the end of the summer window.

Liam Rosenior is said to be a big fan of Filip Jorgensen, but injuries and his mistakes against PSG have hindered his progress under the manager. Mike Penders continues to shine with Strasbourg in France.

It is unclear if Chelsea will look to the transfer market to sign a new no.1. Certainly, Chelsea fans would like to see the club go and sign an experienced player, a leader between the sticks, come the summer.

But the goalkeepers currently being linked with Chelsea are a bit younger than perhaps what fans would want. Sunderland’s Robin Roefs is one target for the Blues, as is Brighton’s Bart Verbruggen and more.

£60m-rated Roefs doubles down on interest from Chelsea

A few weeks ago, Sunderland’s Dutch stopper Roefs kept the door slightly ajar when discussing his future amid the links to Chelsea and other clubs. It comes after a spectacular first season in the Premier League.

Now, Roefs has been speaking about his future again, after keeping a clean sheet over Tottenham during a win on Sunday. Roefs says he doesn’t want to hear about the £60m rumours, as per The Northern Echo.

“I hope this is just the start of Sunderland’s story, he said. On rumours, he continued: “It’s not really a time to think about things like moving or any rumours. As long as I don’t know about it, I just keep on going.”

Roefs did suggest, however, that he would be happy if he remained at Sunderland: “What we are building here is just really, really amazing. We can only build on that, let’s hope next season we continue like this.”

Where does Robert Sanchez’s future lie amid Roefs chat?

Clearly, Chelsea will have a new no.1 next season. Whether that be an internal promotion for Penders or Jorgensen, or a new signing, Sanchez will be dropped. So, is the Spaniard happy being a back-up?

Who would you prefer – Roefs or Verbruggen?

Both are rated at £50m.

Reports emerged earlier this week that Sanchez would pursue a move this summer if he is not going to be the club’s first-choice goalkeeper moving forward under Rosenior. Chelsea are set for a big summer.

Plenty will leave, and many are set to arrive. Four new signings have already been confirmed and the signing of Valentin Barco will make that five. Room needs to be made, but Sanchez is set to leave.
