Manchester United missed the chance to move further clear in the race for the Champions League as they were beaten 2-1 by Leeds United on Monday.

Michael Carrick's side knew a win against Leeds would see them move 10 points ahead of sixth-place Chelsea in the race for Europe's elite club competition. But the Reds were not at the races and suffered a first home defeat under Carrick, with Noah Okafor's first-half brace proving to be the difference.

Casemiro did pull one back for United in the second half, but it was too little too late as the Reds had to settle for just a second loss in 15 Premier League matches.

Pre-match, Carrick was dealt with a huge blow as Kobbie Mainoo was ruled out with a minor knock. Meanwhile, Harry Maguire was suspended and Lisandro Martinez has now added to United's absentee list following his red card against Leeds for pulling Dominic Calvert-Lewin's hair.

Here, the MEN breaks down all of United's current injuries, and when players should return to action...

Kobbie Mainoo

Kobbie Mainoo was left out of the Manchester United squad to face Leeds. The 20-year-old had started in each of United's previous 10 matches since Michael Carrick was appointed as the club's interim head coach in mid-January and has impressed in a midfield-two alongside Casemiro.

But Mainoo didn't feature against Leeds after picking up a minor injury in training. United believed it was not worth risking the midfielder by including him in the squad, with Manuel Ugarte replacing him in the XI.

When asked about Mainoo's absence in his pre-match interview, Carrick told Sky Sports: "Over the last day or so, Kobbie just had an issue in training. So it seems small but big enough to keep him out tonight. It wasn't worth the risk, to be honest, so we're hoping it's pretty small."

Potential return date: Chelsea (A) - April 18

Matthijs De Ligt

Matthijs De Ligt hasn't featured for United since November after suffering a back injury. He is closing in on a return, however, though Monday's game against Leeds came too soon for the Dutchman.

Speaking pre-match, Carrick said: "Just treatment and rehab. The reason he didn't come, he's not quite on the grass."

The interim United head coach added: "Patrick [Dorgu] came with us and Pat's at that stage a little bit further on. Matta's not quite at that stage yet, so it was important for him to... to continue his rehab really and try and get him back there's nothing else really around it."

Potential return date: Unknown

Patrick Dorgu

Patrick Dorgu travelled with the rest of the Manchester United squad for the training camp in the Republic of Ireland, but he is still a little while away from returning to competitive football. The Denmark international has not played for United since sustaining a hamstring injury in a 3-2 win over Arsenal in January.

Potential return date: Unknown
