Loan watch and ex-Blues: Lowes shines again for Darlo

The young Carlisle United midfielder got his latest start for the Quakers in their National League North home clash with Marine.

Ex-Blues striker Offrande Zanzala struck the winner for Marine against Darlington, with Lowes and his seventh-placed team-mates back in action at AFC Telford United next weekend.

There was no action again for Josh Grant and Ethan Robson for Altrincham and South Shields respectively, the midfielder still out injured for their National League and National League North clubs respectively, as Altrincham defeated Eastleigh 1-0 and South Shields won 5-2 at Radcliffe.

Workington Reds boss Billy Barr handed latest starts to Dan Hopper and Jake Allan in the latest game in their Northern Premier League Premier Division survival bid.

Allan played the full game while Hopper was substituted after 55 minutes as Reds lost 2-1 at Ashton United. Next up for the west Cumbrians and their Carlisle loan duo is a trip to Warrington Town, Reds a point above the relegation zone with two games remaining.

There was another start for Lewis Lambert as Bishop Auckland claimed another vital win in their bid for NPL East survival, the young striker playing 86 minutes in a 1-0 win over Blyth Town.

Lambert’s loan club are a point above the drop zone with two games left. They go to Bradford (Park Avenue) on Saturday.

Seb Mason got his latest Queen of the South outing as Peter Murphy ’s side enjoyed a 2-0 win over Cove Rangers in Scottish League One. Mason came off the bench in the 64 th minute for his fourth Doonhamers appearance. The fourth-placed Dumfries outfit go to Peterhead next weekend.

In Northern League Division One, Simon Rigby played the full game as Kendal Town kept their play-off hopes alive with a 1-0 win at Whickham. They host Thornaby in their final game of the campaign next Saturday.

In the same division, Thomas Randall was in goal for Carlisle City as Dan Kirkup ’s 14 th -placed side lost 4-1 at home to champions Guisborough Town, Jordan Holt getting the hosts’ consolation goal. City’s league campaign ends next Saturday at Crook Town.

A host of ex-Blues players were in the thick of the weekend action, meanwhile.

In League Two, Jon Mellish was sent off in MK Dons’ 2-1 win against Bromley, the defender getting a second yellow card for his involvement in a scuffle after a Bromley challenge.

Omari Patrick had a penalty saved in Tranmere Rovers’ 1-1 draw at Chesterfield.

Andy Cook scored twice to help Grimsby Town to a 3-2 win against Crewe Alexandra.

The Championship saw Brad Potts hit Preston North End’s winner in their 2-1 victory at Charlton Athletic.

Jarrad Branthwaite played the full game in the Premier League for Everton as they drew 2-2 at Brentford.

And Dean Henderson helped Crystal Palace to a 2-1 victory over Newcastle United.

There was a red card in National League South for Owen Windsor for an off-the-ball incident in Bath City’s 4-2 win against Chesham.

In the same division, Angelo Balanta hit a late winner for Hornchurch in their 1-0 victory against Ebbsfleet United.

The North West Counties Football League Premier Division saw Sam Adewusi among the goals in Wythenshawe’s 8-1 win at Pilkington.

In Northern League Division One, Jason Blackburn scored for Horden CW in their 3-2 home defeat to Shildon.

North of the border, Joe Hugill was on target for Kilmarnock in their 2-2 draw with Steven Pressley’s Dundee in the Scottish Premiership.
