Aston Villa boss Unai Emery has dismissed concerns that long-running transfer speculation surrounding star wide attacker Morgan Rogers is affecting his performance or focus, insisting the attacker remains fully committed to Villa’s season.
Emery’s comments come amid renewed interest from several Premier League heavyweights, including Manchester United, ARSENAL and Chelsea, as well as reported attention from abroad.
Rogers, who joined Villa from Middlesbrough in January 2024, has been one of the standout performers for the Midlands club over the past two seasons, contributing goals and assists from wide and attacking midfield positions. His rise at Villa has also seen him break into the England national set-up, enhancing his reputation and making him one of the most sought-after young English attackers ahead of the summer window.
Despite the reported interest — which also includes the possibility of bids in excess of £80m — Emery insists the winger has not let the noise distract him from Villa’s current objectives: “He’s focused and he’s here with us,” Emery said. “Two years. And he’s been consistent. He’s been playing consistently and demanding.
“He knows how he’s getting his progress and how the team needs him playing in different positions, being versatile.
“He’s always focusing on his task. And as well, sometimes he’s playing brilliant, and sometimes not, but even not playing brilliant, he’s doing his task.
“He is having a fantastic season. He is part of everything offensively we have. His quality and his attitude is really fantastic.”
Why Villa May Struggle to Keep Rogers from United, Arsenal or Chelsea
Villa’s fight to retain Rogers will likely be one of the biggest transfer sagas of the summer. But for all Emery’s insistence on Rogers’s focus and commitment, several factors suggest the club may ultimately struggle to keep him away from top suitors.
Firstly, Manchester United have a historical and managerial link with Rogers: interim boss Michael Carrick has publicly backed a potential move and previously worked with him, adding a layer of familiarity to their pursuit. Such personal endorsement from a club legend could be persuasive for Rogers if United push hard.
ARSENAL, meanwhile, offer Champions League football and a system that prioritises creative attackers — something that could appeal to Rogers’s ambitions. A move there would place him in a team consistently challenging for major honours, which might be too good an opportunity to reject.
Chelsea also present an attractive project, with recruitment focused on adding versatile, dynamic forwards. Their interest is reportedly part of a longer-term attacking strategy, though they would have to convince Villa that their plans are competitive and convincing
