Italian encourages Chelsea SACK Rosenior–tells Board to hire in-demand boss

Italian football icon Marco Materazzi has reportedly urged Chelsea to dismiss head coach Liam Rosenior and replace him with rising managerial prospect Cesc Fàbregas, currently in charge of Como.

The comments come amid growing scrutiny over Rosenior’s position after a recent dip in form saw Chelsea lose momentum in their pursuit of Champions League qualification. Sources close to the club say concerns have been mounting following dropped points in key fixtures, reducing their margin for error in a tightly contested Premier League race.

Materazzi, speaking to Italian media, praised Fàbregas’ work in Serie A and highlighted the former Spain international’s “elite football intelligence,” suggesting he would be an ideal fit at Stamford Bridge. Fàbregas has impressed since taking over at Como, guiding the club with a possession-driven, modern style that mirrors aspects of his decorated playing career.

‘I was at ***CHELSEA***’s game against Everton [a 3-0 defeat on March 21],’ Materazzi told Hajper. ‘I was at the FIFA Club World Cup final. With Enzo Maresca, they were a totally different team. What I saw in Liverpool was an easy game for Everton. Chelsea did not impress me.

‘I think they have to change. They are a young team and I don’t know if they have the best manager for what Chelsea need right now. They have to try for Cesc Fabregas this summer. I love the job he is doing right now in Como. I don’t know if he will move because he wants to take Como to the Champions League but I can see Chelsea in the future for Fabregas.’

Should Chelsea hire Fabregas?

Fàbregas, currently developing his coaching career with Como 1907, brings elite-level football intelligence, leadership experience, and an intimate understanding of top-level dressing rooms.

Having played under managers such as Arsène Wenger and José Mourinho, he has been exposed to vastly different tactical philosophies, which could translate into a modern, flexible coaching identity. CHELSEA, a club that increasingly values progressive, possession-based football, might find his vision appealing.

However, replacing Rosenior with Fàbregas would also represent a significant gamble. Rosenior has already built a reputation as a tactically disciplined, development-focused coach, particularly in improving young players.

Fàbregas, by contrast, remains relatively inexperienced as a head coach, and stepping into the high-pressure environment of Stamford Bridge is a vastly different challenge from developing a project at Como
