Idrissi-Regragui sheds light on swapping Chelsea for Milan: “I’ve always had a connection”

Yahya Idrissi-Regragui has shed some light on the decision to leave Chelsea in order to move to AC Milan in the winter window.

In the past 18 months, the Milan management have showed a commitment to investing in players for the future, with over €35m spent on teenagers. The investments range from David Odogu and Alphadjo Cissè to Andrej Kostic and Magnus Dalpiaz.

Idrissi-Regragui was one of these investments, havingarrived from Chelsea in the most recent winter mercato. He plays as an attacking midfielder and had begun to surge up the academy system with the Blues He is also capped by Morocco at youth international level too, most recently U18s.

‘Always had a connection’

Idrissi-Regragui recently gave an interview to the Last of the Real podcast, in which he also addressed why he decided to try a new experience in Italy. MilanNews relayed what he had to say.

“I experienced a big change when I moved to Milan recently. It took me a good month to settle in, but I’d say I’ve adapted well. I keep busy with football, and in my free time, I study Italian with a private tutor who only teaches me,” he said.

“AC Milan is a big club, and I’ve always had a connection with them since I was little. When I played for West Ham, we took part in a tournament in Milan, and they took us to San Siro for a guided tour. I still have photos of me as a child alongside AC Milan players.

“When the offer came, I was pretty sure I’d go. The style of play in Italy is very different from Chelsea’s, it’s much more tactical and focused on plays. I went to Milan because I was the type of player they lacked.”
