Everton have been warned by former midfielder Gareth Barry that they must ensure Iliman Ndiaye feels “valued and happy” at Goodison Park, as speculation linking the forward with a potential switch to Manchester United intensifies.
The comments come as multiple reports suggest United are monitoring the Everton attacker, who has emerged as one of the side’s most influential performers this season. Ndiaye, who represents Senegal at international level, has drawn attention for his tactical versatility, ball-carrying ability and productivity in advanced roles—attributes that Manchester United are believed to be seeking as they reshape their forward line.
Barry, who remains well connected at Everton, believes the club cannot afford to let the situation drift. Speaking this week, he said the Toffees face a “real challenge” in convincing Ndiaye that Everton’s long-term project matches his ambitions
Barry – speaking in association with BetMGM – told GOAL: “The couple of times I’ve been to the new stadium this year, I’ve been really, really impressed with him. He’s one of those that does get you off your seat, on the other wing to Jack Grealish.
“He’s really, really exciting to watch, so I completely understand the interest he’s going to get. But, I think Everton need to keep him happy, need to keep him at the club, because those players don’t come along too often. Everton, where they are at the minute, they’re going to struggle to attract that type of player.
“It’s a big time for Everton to look at him and keep him happy, try and keep him on the books, and try and improve. Everton with [David] Moyes, try and see if they can kick on again next year. It’s been a great season so far this year going into their new stadium. Keep players like that and they need to kick on again.”
Why a move to United could appeal to Ndiaye
A transfer to Manchester United would offer Ndiaye several compelling incentives. First, the scale and profile of the club remain unmatched in English football. For a player entering his prime, the global platform United provide—particularly in European competition—would accelerate his visibility and market value.
Second, the tactical environment at Old Trafford may suit him. United have lacked fluid, multifunctional forwards in recent seasons, and Ndiaye’s ability to drift between lines, press aggressively and create overloads would likely earn him significant minutes.
