Newcastle United are stepping up their pursuit of Porto winger William Gomes, according to AS reporter Eduardo Burgos.
Writing on his X account, the journalist said that the Magpies have “intensified interest” in the 20-year-old ahead of the summer transfer window.

It is believed that Porto will not entertain offers for less than €50m (£43.5m) for Gomes, and any deal would have to be finalised after the World Cup.
Burgos reports that Eddie Howe’s team are by no means the only club who have designs on recruiting the Brazilian, with “plenty of suitors” in England and Spain.

This information from Burgos comes a few days after a Brazilian reporter, Joao Pedro Cunha, named Chelsea and Arsenal as potential rivals for the forward’s signature.
Cunha even suggested that Chelsea are preparing a €65m (£56.5m) offer for Gomes, but that has not been corroborated by other sources.
From the sound of things, the winger could be available for a slightly lower price, although Newcastle may still think €50m (£43.5m) is a lot of money to pay.

What do Newcastle fans need to know about the player?
Gomes came through the ranks of Sao Paulo and made his senior debut as a substitute against Fluminense during a 1-0 defeat in November 2023.
The Brazilian made his first start against Vitoria in August 2024, and he also scored his first goal in that game.
It wasn’t long before Porto decided to spend €9m to bring Gomes to Europe at the end of the January 2025 transfer window. While it took him six months to bed in at his new team, he has been in good form since the start of this campaign, scoring 13 goals and providing 2 assists in 40 appearances. He is left-footed and generally prefers to play off the right flank.
