Bryan Robson is warming to the idea of Michael Carrick remaining Manchester United head coach so long as the interim head coach achieves his main objective this season.
Although Manchester United lost 2-1 against Leeds, winning just one of their last four matches, Michael Carrick has the team pushing for a Champions League spot.
United are currently sitting third in the Premier League table with the same tally of points as Aston Villa (55) in fourth place.
There is widespread belief that Carrick is making a strong case for the job permanently, but the 44-year-old must ensure that United finish in the top five to book a place in the Champions League.

Bryan Robson’s verdict on Michael Carrick’s job at Man Utd
After a topsy-turvy first half to the season under Ruben Amorim, Carrick’s return led to United getting their 2025/26 campaign on track.
Carrick received plenty of plaudits for his initial run of results after returning to Old Trafford, which included wins over Arsenal and Man City.
Former United captain Bryan Robson believes Carrick deserves the job if he can get the Red Devils back into the Champions League.
More United News
Robson has been impressed by Carrick’s job to date as interim coach, but argues that some United fans are getting ahead of themselves by demanding a third-placed finish in the Premier League.
Appearing on the Tippy Tappy Football podcast, Robson was asked if Carrick should be the head coach of United.
Robson, aged 69, said: “I think if Michael gets us in the Champions League… I think they should give him the job.
“He deserves it. From where we were when Michael came in, everybody’s getting carried away saying, ‘he should only get it if finished third.’
“But for me, as long as he gets us in the Champions League, he should get the job.”
Ineos have a big decision to make at the end of the season, whether to keep Carrick or opt for someone different.
The setback against Leeds on Monday night means there is more at stake when United travel to Chelsea this weekend, with six games left to play.

Bryan Robson’s managerial career
Robson, also known as Captain Marvel, has plenty of experience as a manager.
It all started as player-manager at Middlesbrough in 1994 when he helped them gain promotion into the top flight.
After hanging his boots up completely, Robson led Boro to three cup finals.
Robson also managed West Brom and helped them avoid relegation from the Premier League in the 2004/05 season. He was unable to replicate the same feat the following year as the Baggies dropped out of the top-flight.
There were shorter spells too – at Sheffield United and Bradford City, before Robson got a taste of international football by taking charge of the Thailand National Team between 2009 and 2011.
