Aaron Anselmino
Aarón Anselmino #28 (Borussia Dortmund), FC Augsburg vs. Borussia Dortmund, Soccer, 1. Bundesliga, Germany, Round 9, 31.10.2025.
Chelsea‘s Aaron Anselmino has struggled with multiple injuries since the start of last year.
The Blues signed him from Boca Juniors in August 2024 and sent him back on loan for a season.
In January 2025, Chelsea cut short his loan stay and brought him to Stamford Bridge.
A month later, the centre-back suffered a hamstring injury and was out of action for 82 days. This meant he ended up playing only two minutes for the Premier League side.
Last summer, the west London club let him join Borussia Dortmund on a season-long loan deal.
The 20-year-old played 581 minutes from 10 matches and struggled with a muscle issue and a hamstring injury.
In the winter market, Liam Rosenior’s side recalled him, only to send him on loan to RC Strasbourg, a club owned by Chelsea owners, BlueCo. He’s played 15 minutes from three matches for the Ligue 1 side so far.
Injuries continue to haunt Chelsea man
L’Equipe now cover the latest on Aaron Anselmino’s injury situation, and it doesn’t look good for him.
Towards the end of February, the Argentina U21 international picked up a hamstring injury and spent over a month on the sidelines.
On April 4th, the Chelsea owned player came off the bench in the French club’s 3-1 league win over OGC Nice.
Last Thursday, Strasbourg manager Gary O’Neil confirmed another fresh setback for the defender.
He said: “It’s the other hamstring this time He needs to undergo tests to determine the severity of the injury.”
The French newspaper now report the South American is scheduled to undergo further tests on Monday. This should give more clarity on the ‘severity of his injury’.
As things stand, the Blues man’s season seems to be ‘well and truly over’. In other words, he won’t feature again this season.
Our take: Worry for Chelsea
Since the start of 2025, he’d missed 212 days until the start of this month. The latest injury blow means this number will only increase.
Aaron Anselmino’s repeated hamstring problem is concerning for himself and Chelsea. The pair will be eagerly waiting for the tests results next week to find out the extent of the damage.
The trend so far indicates it’ll be difficult for the Blues to rely upon him next season.
Transfermarkt value the Argentine, who has a contract at Stamford Bridge until 2031, at €12m.
