Chelsea loanee’s season is ‘definitively over’ after latest injury problem

Chelsea’s first team squad currently have a number of injury problems to deal with, however one of their loanees’ seasons is now over following his latest issue.

The Blues are currently missing club captain Reece James after he suffered his first significant injury issue in over a year, and his absence has been felt during a woeful run of form.

Levi Colwill also remains on the sidelines after a serious knee problem suffered during pre-season, however there is optimism that he could feature again this season.

Aaron Anselmino’s season is over after latest injury

The Blues brought Mamadou Sarr into the first team squad in January for defensive cover, replacing him at Strasbourg with Aaron Anselmino.

The youngster has really struggled for opportunities since making the move due to a string of injuries, and L’Equipe have now reported that his season is now over due to his latest issue.

He managed just three Ligue 1 appearances, totaling to just 15 minutes of action after he was playing a key role earlier this season for Borussia Dortmund.

However, Chelsea believed the Bundesliga side were looking to convince the player towards a permanent move, however the Blues preferred to keep him under the BlueCo model.

Chelsea highly rate Anselmino

Despite the fact he has only featured sporadically for Chelsea, the Blues have high hopes for Anselmino alongside Colwill.

However, his ongoing injury woes are proving to be a real concern in regards to whether he can be a long-term option for the club.

As well as Sarr, Chelsea also have Josh Acheampong in the first team squad and ready to make a more regular contribution to first team action.

The Blues are also reportedly in the market for a new centre-back at the end of this season, with the likes of Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke being mentioned as potential candidates.
