Chelsea 'make decision on sacking Liam Rosenior' days before crucial Man Utd clash

Chelsea's top brass have reached a decision on Liam Rosenior's future ahead of this weekend's crucial meeting with Manchester United, according to reports. The former Strasbourg boss has endured a baptism of fire since he was appointed to replace Enzo Maresca in January. He has overseen 11 victories from his 21 matches in charge, with only one of those coming in Chelsea's last six games.

However, those in power at Stamford Bridge are thought to have a different view of the situation.

They are prepared to back Rosenior on a long-term basis and will continue to support him through this difficult period, according to Sky Sports.

It's claimed that Chelsea bosses 'have faith' in Rosenior and will keep him even if they don't secure Champions League qualification.

He signed a six-and-a-half-year contract when he arrived in January, meaning the Blues would need to shell out millions in compensation if they decide to pull the trigger.

Speaking after the City defeat, Rosenior said that he hoped he would be given time to build something 'very special' at Chelsea.

He pointed out how Jurgen Klopp transformed Liverpool after being afforded enough breathing space to get them firing on all cylinders and mould the squad in his image.

"Obviously I’m here and I need to win in this moment," said Rosenior. "This is a huge football club. When I first came, I never asked for a lot of time because I understand this club, I understand the traditions and the history of this club.

"I would like to have that time because I’m confident that within that time, you can create something very, very special within the time that it takes.

"Even someone as experienced as Pep [Guardiola] or Jurgen Klopp when he won the titles he did at Liverpool, they had a year to sort things out.

"I’ve come in January. It’s not an excuse, it’s a reality. I need to win in the now and that’s what I’ll be focused on."

Meanwhile, Italian legend Marco Materazzi has called on Chelsea to ditch the Rosenior project and appoint Cesc Fabregas in the summer.

"They are a young team and I don’t know if they have the best manager for what Chelsea need right now," said Materazzi.

"They have to try to get Cesc Fabregas this summer. I love the job he is doing right now in Como. I don’t know if he will move because he wants to take Como to the Champions League.

"But I can see Chelsea in the future for Fabregas. Why not? Chelsea are the best club for Cesc Fabregas because they have young players who will follow his words immediately."
