Man Utd Are 'Ready To Speak' To Carrick Alternative With 'Formal Approach' Expected - Report

Michael Carrick’s chances of getting the Man Utd job on a permanent basis have taken a knock, according to reports.

The 44-year-old has been tipped to stay in the dugout beyond the end of the season after an outstanding run of results since he took over as interim back in January.

However, GiveMeSport claim that the Red Devils are now “ready to speak” to alternatives as they ramp up their search for a new manager.

It is believed that there is one outstanding candidate, other than Carrick, that the club are seeking talks with.

Nagelsmann leads the shortlist

Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann is seemingly the man that United are favouring over most other candidates at the moment.

The 38-year-old is said to be at least level with Carrick in terms of his chances of getting the job, with the likes of USA head coach Mauricio Pochettino further down the shortlist.

Nagelsmann did sign a new contract with Germany to keep him in charge until Euro 2028, but he is believed to be keen on managing in the Premier League, and he would reportedly be open to moving to Old Trafford after this summer’s World Cup.

Man Utd are set to make a “formal approach”

With the season nearing its end, the Red Devils are looking to make a decision on the next permanent manager in the near future.

It means interviews with leading candidates are expected to take place over the coming weeks, and GiveMeSport report that a “formal approach” for Nagelsmann is anticipated soon.

While it doesn’t necessarily mean the German will get the job, it appears that it’s far from guaranteed that Carrick will be staying in his position beyond the end of the campaign.
