Arsenal transfer target Nathaniel Brown says he is not affected by speculation that he could become the most expensive left back in football history this summer.

Reports in the German media claim that his club, Eintracht Frankfurt, have slapped a €65m (£56.5m) asking price on the defender, and when asked about the figure, Brown replied:

“Honestly, I don’t think about numbers like that or a potential move in the summer at all. My focus is fully on Eintracht and on the goal of qualifying for Europe. And then I would very much like to be at the World Cup. After that, I’ll see what happens in the summer. In football, you can’t really plan things, so I don’t dwell on it.”

Addressing the rumours linking him with the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona, he said:

“Yes, I’ve noticed it, but it doesn’t affect me. I focus on the goals that are in my own hands. Everything else doesn’t interest me right now.”

What do fans need to know about Brown?

The German was born in Amberg, Germany, and he came through the youth ranks of Nurnberg before making his senior debut for their B team in March 2022.

Brown was promoted to the first-team setup within a year and he was then sold to Eintracht Frankfurt for €3m at the beginning of 2024.

The defender remained on loan at Nurnberg for the second half of the 2023/24 season before prior to joining Frankfurt in the summer.

Over the last two campaigns, Brown has caught the eye, racking up 7 goals and 12 assists in 70 appearances for the Bundesliga side.

Do Arsenal need another left-back?

At the moment, the answer to that question is ‘no’, with manager Mikel Arteta having the likes of Myles Lewis-Skelly, Riccardo Calafiori and Piero Hincapie at his disposal.

However, Lewis-Skelly is expected to be sold this summer, and Calafiori’s injury problems may lead to the Gunners offloading the defender back to Italy, where he has several suitors.

If both players were to leave, there would be room for Brown, but it’s very unlikely that the club would match Frankfurt’s current valuation.
