Nathaniel Brown
Eintracht Frankfurt defender Nathaniel Brown doesn’t want to dance around the subject of a transfer this summer, with Arsenal, Manchester City and others keen.
In fact, when asked about interest from Arsenal and Manchester City, he was straight to the point. He’s well aware that the Premier League’s top two are watching him closely.
Speaking to SportBILD today, the 22-year-old was clear that reports have linked him to both clubs. But he won’t be adding to the transfer speculation any time soon.
“Yes, you do pick up on things like that, but it doesn’t influence me. I’m concentrating on the goals that are within my control. Nothing else interests me right now,” he said.
€65m transfer fee
Reports have linked Arsenal and Manchester City with a potential move for Nathaniel Brown since November last year.
Sport Witness have covered that extensively, including the original report. There’s been encouragement for the move too. A report last month stated Arsenal and Manchester City would be getting a great deal, even at a €60m valuation.
That’s now risen to €65m, despite Transfermarkt valuing the left-back at €35m currently. A €65m price tag would make Brown the joint most expensive left-back ever, alongside Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella.
That was put to him, but he insists that he’s only focused on his game and not breaking transfer records.
“It’s a truly staggering sum. But frankly speaking, I’m not giving numbers like that, or the possibility of a transfer this summer, a second thought,” he added.
“My focus is entirely on Eintracht and our goal of qualifying for Europe. And after that, I would really love to be part of the World Cup squad. Then, I’ll see what happens in the summer. It’s hard to make plans in football, which is why I don’t dwell on it.”
Summer transfer likely
While Nathaniel Brown may not want to talk about it, the reality is that a summer transfer is likely.
Eintracht Frankfurt have been inconsistent, but he hasn’t. He’s become one of the Bundesliga’s stand out young full backs, combining athleticism, composure and maturity despite his age.
There’s a reason the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City and Real Madrid have been credited with an interest. Brown’s name is clearly circling at the very top of recruitment lists. And he’s aware of it, even if he refuses to add fuel to the fire.
