Barcelona have had some intriguing summer transfer windows in recent years due to their ongoing financial struggles which have prompted some creative business to secure their targets.
The La Liga champions have often relied on free transfers and loans to avoid their large wage bill continuing to balloon but there is hope that this summer they can make at least one marquee signing.
With another La Liga title on the cards, FootballTransfers takes a look at five players who could join Barcelona this summer.
Marcus Rashford
The permanent signing of Marcus Rashford was expected to be a formality after a positive loan spell from Manchester United this season but Barcelona are reluctant to pay the agreed fee for the 28-year-old.
Rashford has impressed with his attitude and performances during his time in Catalonia and there is an option to turn his loan into a permanent deal for €30m but Barca are hoping to negotiate a lower fee if they are to keep hold of the forward.
United have no desire to entertain a discount or a fresh loan for Rashford, which could put the deal in jeopardy, but the England international is keen on staying with Barca and, should he finish the deal strongly, the club will likely push towards extending his stint if possible.
Abde Ezzalzouli
Should Barcelona opt against keeping hold of Rashford, a move for Betis winger Abde Ezzalzouli is expected to materialise instead due to his availability for a bargain price." href="https://www.footballtransfers.com/en/transfer-news/uk-premier-league/2026/04/man-utd-summer-transfer-plans-major-turn-barcelona-bargain-marcus-rashford-alternative" target="_blank">expected to materialise instead due to his availability for a bargain price.

Barca have an option to buy back Abde for a reported fee of €20m, having sold him to Betis in 2023 for €7.5m, and the 24-year-old’s performances have prompted questions over whether he can be a cheaper alternative to Rashford.
Abde has been a key figure for Betis during his time at the club and has impressed this season, having come through Barca’s academy as a youngster.
Alessandro Bastoni
One deal which is already believed to be in progress is the signing of Alessandro Bastoni, with Barcelona seeing the Inter defender as the perfect long-term answer at left centre-back.

Bastoni has been a standout defender in Serie A throughout his career but a recent dip in form has opened the door to an exit from Inter, with a deal seen as a win-win for all parties.
According to Fabrizio Romano, while talks are ongoing with the player, negotiations over a fee have not begun yet" href="https://www.footballtransfers.com/en/transfer-news/uk-premier-league/2026/04/fabrizio-romano-transfer-news-ibrahima-konate-liverpool-contract-latest-eduardo-camavinga-real-madrid-exit-plan" target="_blank">talks are ongoing with the player, negotiations over a fee have not begun yet, with Barca aiming to pay around €50m, while Inter are thought to be holding out for closer to €60-70m.
Julian Alvarez
The player Barcelona are most desperate to sign this summer is Julian Alvarez, with Hansi Flick’s side looking to find a long-term successor to Robert Lewandowski up front as they prepare for a future without their 37-year-old star striker.

Alvarez has been long-admired by the Barca but Atletico Madrid are not expected to be willing sellers and would likely demand a fee of around €100m to consider the Argentine international’s exit" href="https://www.footballtransfers.com/en/transfer-news/es-primera-division/2026/04/i-am-god-i-will-decide-atletico-madrid-president-hits-back-julian-alvarez-transfer-rumours-arsenal-chelsea-barcelona" target="_blank">not expected to be willing sellers and would likely demand a fee of around €100m to consider the Argentine international’s exit, with Arsenal also thought to be interested in deal.
Barca are hoping that Alvarez’s desire to join the club will take priority and that their public pursuit of the player will convince him to push for an exit so that the La Liga giants can secure their preferred option to replace Lewandowski.
Marc Cucurella
Barcelona are believed to be considering the signing of a full-back this summer and Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella is thought to be high on their list of potential targets, having come through the club’s academy.

Speculation also intensified over a move in March after Cucurella admitted it would be difficult to turn down a return to his boyhood club" href="https://www.footballtransfers.com/en/transfer-news/uk-premier-league/2026/03/chelsea-transfer-news-marc-cucurella-barcelona-hint" target="_blank">admitted it would be difficult to turn down a return to his boyhood club, much to the fury of Chelsea.
Cucurella is a key player for Chelsea and they are not looking to cash in on the left-back but, should Barcelona find the funds, a deal could be feasible if the Blues end up missing out on Champions League football for next season.
