Altay Bayindir nears Turkish Süper Lig return as personal terms are agreed

Manchester United’s back-up goalkeeper Altay Bayindir has stepped closer to a return to the Turkish Süper Lig.

It’s shaping up to be a big summer for Altay Bayindir.

Bayindir will be going to the World Cup after Turkey secured qualification for the first time in 24 years. On top of that, there is a lot of uncertainty over the 28-year-old’s future at Manchester United.

Bayindir was linked with a move to Besiktas earlier this year, but a deal never materialised, meaning there will be no shortage of transfer speculation surrounding the Turkey international this summer.

Besiktas resume talks to sign Altay Bayindir

Casemiro won’t be the only player leaving Old Trafford in the coming months.

After spending another season as a back-up goalkeeper, despite a brief stint as first-choice before Senne Lammens’ arrival earlier this season, Bayindir will be considering his future.

According to the Daily Mail, Besiktas met with Bayindir’s representatives and have now agreed on personal terms.

The next step for Besiktas is to reach an agreement with United over a transfer fee. They failed to do that in January, but it shouldn’t be a major hurdle given that the club paid £4.3 million to sign him from Fenerbahce in 2023.

United may sign a new back-up goalkeeper should Bayindir and Andre Onana both leave the club, although there is a lot of excitement around Radek Vitek, who is currently impressing on loan for Bristol City in the Championship.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Besiktas remain interested in Bayindir, as they’ve conceded more goals (34) than any other team in the Turkish Süper Lig’s top four.

When did Altay Bayindir last play for Man Utd?

Bayindir has not played for United since Lammens made his debut in United’s 2-0 win over Sunderland earlier this season.

The Turkish international has paid a price for United’s lack of involvement in domestic cup competitions, after being eliminated from the FA Cup and Carabao Cup in the early stages.

Bayindir last appeared for United on September 27, 2025, in a Premier League match against Brentford (3-1 defeat).

It remains to be seen if Bayindir will play for the club again.
