Harry Maguire ban extended to Chelsea game as Man Utd get a ‘sense’ of Lisandro Martinez situation

Manchester United are set to miss Harry Maguire for their trip to Chelsea after the FA upheld his extended ban for one more game.

The sending off against Bournemouth for Harry Maguire became worse when the FA charged him with improper conduct due to his comments about the referee.

Man Utd appealed against it, but it has fallen on deaf ears, with the ban set to extend to the Chelsea game after he missed the Leeds game as well.

The club have also received an update on the Lisandro Martinez situation as they get ready to appeal another instance.

Man Utd receive Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez update

Man Utd have been on the receiving end of two poor refereeing decisions now in consecutive games.

Maguire’s red card was dicey at best, unforgivable at worst, while Martinez was sent off for a textbook following of rules without any common sense.

Now that they are set to miss Maguire for the trip to Chelsea, the club appealed to overturn the ban on Martinez.

However, The Athletic report that the ‘sense’ within the club is that their appeal is likely heading the same way as that of Maguire.

It means Michael Carrick will miss both his senior-most centre-backs for the game at Chelsea, and with Matthijs de Ligt already absent, a tricky scenario is taking shape.

Michael Carrick will have to trust Ayden Heaven and Leny Yoro

It’s the situation Carrick avoided by the skin of his teeth against Leeds, but a centre-back partnership of Ayden Heaven and Leny Yoro is unavoidable against Chelsea now.

Yoro had a mixed time out vs Leeds, while Heaven’s absence has been puzzling under Carrick.

At least Heaven is someone who can come in from the cold and perform well, as he did under Ruben Amorim numerous times.

Carrick will take solace from the fact that Chelsea aren’t in the best of form, and don’t have an intimidating striker in the ilk of Dominic Calvert-Lewin at Leeds.

Regardless, a trip to Stamford Bridge is a daunting prospect for a centre-back partnership with a combined age of 39.

It’s their chance to show Man Utd fans a glimpse into a bright future.
