Chelsea introduce a new policy for anyone at the club who is underperforming

Chelsea’s hierarchy has implemented a new era of accountability at Stamford Bridge, moving away from protected roles to a system where even sporting directors will face difficult questions.

Chelsea is currently navigating a period of instability, as a season that promised progression under Liam Rosenior has instead been marred by a severe breakdown in behavioral discipline.

The Blues have become the Premier League’s most penalised side, accumulating a staggering 10 red cards across all competitions this season, seven of which have occurred in the league.

This stupidity, as previously described by the hierarchy, has directly cost the team vital points, with dismissals for players like Pedro Neto and Wesley Fofana ruining things.

The lack of composure on the pitch is mirrored by a regression in results. Chelsea has slipped to 6th in the table, suffering heavy 3–0 defeats to Manchester City and Everton in their last five outings.

Chelsea set sterner restrictions behind the scenes

According to Matt Law on the London is Blue podcast, literally everyone at Chelsea is under scrutiny and will have difficult questions to answer come the end of the season if they’re deemed to have underperformed.

“I did raise the fact internally with Chelsea some time ago about whether the sporting directors face judgment, given that we often hear about the planned Rosenior assessment will be in the summer 2027.

“It does work differently for the sporting directors. I don’t think they get these planned assessments because they work far closer with the ownership.

“But I have been told that anybody within Chelsea, whether it be players, the head coach, or the sporting directors, if they’re deemed to have underperformed, they will have to answer some difficult questions.”

The punishments Chelsea need to introduce

To rectify the current situation, Chelsea’s hierarchy must look at introducing more consequences, starting with the implementation of strict performance-related salary clawbacks.

For a squad currently leading the league in red cards and defensive lapses, financial penalties tied to avoidable disciplinary actions or failure to meet basic metrics would send a clear message that professional standards are non-negotiable.

For the sporting directors, punishment must take the form of reduced responsibility; if recruitment failures like the defensive vacuum left by Marc Guehi continue, the ownership must appoint an independent oversight committee to vet all future outgoings.
