This weekend, AC Milan will face Hellas Verona in a must-win game for their Champions League hopes. However, it comes with a risk.
A few weeks ago, Milan were in a pretty comfortable position. They had a points advantage and confidence was flowing. Now, they are in a perilous one. Another loss could have substantial consequences and their European hopes are becoming questionable.
A model suggested that they still have a fantastic chance of qualifying for Europe’s most prestigious competition. However, they cannot get overconfident, and the fans certainly aren’t.
Five facing suspension
There is more to contend with than just the picture, though. This weekend, against Verona, the Rossoneri will have to keep an eye on the future as they face Juventus one game later.
As Tuttosport reported, there are five players who are one booking away from a suspension, which MilanPress relays. Those are risk are: Luka Modric, Youssouf Fofana, Alexis Saelemaekers, Zachary Athekame and Rafael Leao.
Considering there are only one or two ‘sacrifiable’ players in that group, the Rossoneri would be forgiven for making a few changes to ensure that Allegri has the strongest chance of beating his former club.
However, the thought has not even crossed his mind, just like it didn’t before Adrien Rabiot’s potential suspension before the Derby della Madonnina.
It will be a massive risk, but the Diavolo cannot afford to prioritise any points currently, every game holds the same importance.
