In an endorsement of Chelsea’s recruitment strategy, Brazilian icon Romario has named Estevao Willian as one of the three young talents he would immediately sign if he were a Director of Football.
Estevao Willian and Lamine Yamal are currently two of the most promising teenagers in world football, representing the future of the game at Chelsea and Barcelona, respectively.
Yamal has already proven himself at an elite level in Europe and on the international stage. Estevao offers a more direct and aggressive profile that focuses on 1v1 dominance. The Brazilian’s game is built on high-speed dribbling and a ruthless intent to drive into the penalty area, whereas Yamal often operates as more of an orchestrator who dictates the tempo from the wide right position.
For Chelsea, acquiring a talent viewed on the same tier as Yamal represents a major win, but that’s just one success story out of all the youngsters that have been recruited.

Romario gives Estevao Willian a special nod
Romario says Estevao is a player he would sign if he was a director of football alongside Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal and Real Madrid midfielder Arda Guler (Bajo los Pollos).
“If you were a Director of Football, which three young players would you sign for your team?”
“Yamal, Estevao…”
“Guler, do you like him from Real Madrid?
“Yes, perfect, that’s three.”
Are you taking Nicolas Jackson back at Chelsea in the summer? Is he better than what we’ve got?

Liam Rosenior needs to channel Estevao Willian
Liam Rosenior needs to channel Estevao Willian’s raw brilliance. While the Brazilian has already delivered 10 goal contributions this term, his campaign has been disrupted by hamstring injuries and recent compassionate leave, leaving Rosenior with the task of reintegrating him for the final push.
To maximise the 18-year-old’s impact, Rosenior must strike a balance between allowing Estevao the creative freedom to drive into the penalty area and ensuring he fulfills the defensive responsibilities required in a high-pressing side.
Efficiently managing his minutes and positioning will be the decisive factor in whether Chelsea can salvage their European aspirations.
