Harry Maguire will miss Manchester United’s visit to Stamford Bridge on Saturday night, which means centre-back academy talents are going to be called upon to step into the senior squad.
After a long wait for a decision, Harry Maguire has been handed a one-man ban for swearing at match officials following his red card against Bournemouth.
Maguire therefore will miss out on facing Chelsea, and United are also without suspended Lisandro Martinez after his red card against Leeds.
Matthijs de Ligt is still injured, and so Ayden Heaven and Leny Yoro will start for United. But on the bench, Michael Carrick will have to look toward the academy for his defensive options.

Sonny Aljofree
One potential option for United to have a centre-back option on the bench is Sonny Aljofree, with the 21-year-old impressing for the U21s recently and has the most senior experience of the academy defenders.
Aljofree played against Liverpool for Accrington Stanley last season on loan and had a strong spell out on loan earlier this season as well.
Despite this, Aljofree is rarely exposed to the senior set-up and Carrick may prefer to promote a talent with future at Old Trafford.

Dan Armer
Dan Armer is considered a ‘mini’ Harry Maguire for his mannerisms, style of play and his strengths on the pitch.
However, Armer is still playing U18 football and so the leap to professional football if he was called upon would be huge.
Armer is still quite slight physically and so United might not be willing to move him onto the first-team bench when he might not actually be ready to play.

Albert Mills
Armer’s U18 partner Albert Mills will be another top contender for United to fill the centre-back void on the bench.
Mills was called into senior training by Carrick recently, showing he rates the young defender and this could indicate he is ahead of Armer.
Mills is slightly more physical, which likely gives him the edge of these two.
Godwill Kukonki
Finally, the most likely option of all is Godwill Kukonki as the 6ft 5in defender has already been in senior squads in his young career.
Kukonki can be a top tier defender and United are clearly high on his potential, as he has been on the cusp of becoming an academy graduate for over 12 months.
Recently, Kukonki has wowed the first-team staff and this would be our pick to step up as depth for Yoro and Heaven, potentially even making his debut if needed.
Kukonki is ready and stepping up here could be a platform for him to play during pre-season and breakout next season.
