Arsenal’s historic night confirms UEFA Champions League semi final fixtures

Paris Saint-Germain will face Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid with face Arsenal for a spot in the UEFA Champions League final at the Puskas Arena in Budapest, Hungary, on 31 May AEST.

PSG will host Bayern and Atletico will host Arsenal in the first legs on 29 and 30 April respectively, before the reverse fixtures on 6 and 7 May.

Arsenal progressed to back-to-back semis for the first time ever thanks to a 0-0 draw at home against Sporting, which sealed a 1-0 aggregate triumph, while Bayern Munich won a stunning 10-goal tie with Real Madrid 6-4, with a 4-3 win on the night.

“It’s a massive moment. To be part of those four teams [in the semi-finals] is great work,” Arsena boss Mikel Arteta said on TNT Sports.

“It’s a great night. I’m very happy for all our people. We are making steps that haven’t been done at this club for 140 years [back-to-back Champions League semi-finals].”

Declan Rice laughed off the idea that the noise around the club was building pressure.

“Like being at any other top club, there’s noise with everything!

“This is Arsenal football club, there’s noise with every game. If you don’t play well, if you don’t play good, take it with a pinch of salt and keep moving.

“Bring on the last few weeks. It’s a rollercoaster. Nobody’s going to hand you anything in this game. Let’s keep going and what will be will be. Let’s keep going strong.”

On whether the 0-0 draw was a frustrating night, he retorted: “Frustrating?

“No, we just got to a semi-final, positivity all the way. Who cares what people think? All that matters is what this group think, what the manager thinks and we’re in another semi-final. I’m delighted.”
