The 53-year record Nottingham Forest are about to break with Aston Villa after 1-0 Porto win

Nottingham Forest defeated Porto 1-0 at the City Ground to advance to the semi-finals of the Europa League.

Vitor Pereira’s side were up against 10 men for most of the clash, as former Southampton defender Jan Bednarek was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Chris Wood.

It certainly wasn’t a convincing Nottingham Forest performance, as they let Porto back into the game in the latter stages.

Phew… what did you make of that Forest fans! 😅

But ultimately, Forest fans won’t care as they’ve reached their first European semi-final since 1984.

The Tricky Trees are also about to break another record, and this one has stood for 53 years.

🔢How many points do Forest take from this run of fixtures…

Interestingly, it’s actually the first all-English semi-final in the Europa League, formerly known as the UEFA Cup, since 1973.

Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur were the last English teams to meet in the last four of the competition, with the Reds progressing on that occasion.

Indeed, Forest will certainly have to improve their performance level against Aston Villa to stand any chance of reaching the final.

They weren’t great this evening, and Villa, meanwhile, produced one of their best displays of the season.

A huge game now awaits Forest on Sunday, as they take on Burnley at the City Ground.
