Morgan Gibbs-White expressed his support for Nottingham Forest teammate Elliot Anderson on an “emotional night” at the City Ground.
Gibbs-White scored the winner for the Reds as they beat Porto 1-0 on the night and 2-1 on aggregate to reach the Europa League semi-finals. Vitor Pereira’s side will meet Premier League rivals Aston Villa in the last four of the competition.
Forest were without Anderson for the second leg battle against their Portuguese opponents, following the death of the England international’s mother. Gibbs-White had held up a shirt in the midfielder’s honour after finding the back of the net.

After the match, he told TNT Sports: "Really emotional night. It's a big shame, he's an incredible kid and no one deserves this but we're all with him."
The hosts certainly did not have it all their own way Trentside, despite Porto being reduced to 10 men early on. The visitors twice hit the woodwork and created plenty of chances.
The Reds hung on, though, to reach their first European semi-final since 1984. Chants of “Istanbul” had echoed around the stadium on the night as fans’ dreams of reaching the final in Turkey remained alive.
"They were chanting that four games ago,” Gibbs-White quipped. “Their expectations are high and so are ours. Villa in the next round, we take it as it comes but we have a Premier League game to focus on first."

He added: "We got fortunate (with) them going down to 10 men, we knew it would be difficult. Incredible win and we go onto the semi-final. An incredible night.
"One of the best nights I've had at the City Ground, thanks to the fans and everyone that's made it happen. We said early on that we'd take this competition full on and we deservedly got the win today. Now we rest and go into the league."
