Coventry braced for Premiership celebrations as whole city's eyes on Sky Blues

Coventry CIty FC is on the brink of Premiership promotion glory - and the whole city is behind the team. A dark shadow has hung over the since the Sky Blues were relegated in 2001.

The lows that followed have been well-documented but, a quarter of a century later, and the wait is almost over for the team to make a return to the top flight.

And the city could not be more ready for it. From pubs to clubs, even bakeries making special Sky Blues treats, the city has turned Sky Blue and the champagne (or beers) are literally on ice.

Should the team secure even just a point away at Blackburn tonight, they will return to the promised land - the Premier League.

Fans by the coach and car load are set to make their way to Ewood Park but thousands will be watching the game across the city - all of them poised for celebrations not seen for decades.

West Midlands Police has confirmed to CoventryLive that it has a patrol plan in place so that all celebrations take place safely.

"We are aware of the significance of Friday and the anticipated celebrations for Coventry City securing promotion to the Premier League," a force spokesperson said.

“Alongside partners we are working on a patrol plan to help everyone celebrate safely and enjoy themselves.
