"It feels like homework": Ex-Arsenal star takes swipe at Mikel Arteta’s stifling tactics after…

Arsenal have been given insight into Jorginho’s decision to leave the club, with the midfielder admitting he moved on in search of renewed enjoyment and a more prominent role.

Jorginho, who joined Arsenal from Chelsea in 2023, spent two seasons in North London before returning to Brazil with Flamengo.

The Italy international made 79 appearances for the Gunners but started only 27 matches, and he has now revealed that limited minutes played a key role in his exit.

“I want to feel alive and important for the team,” he said. “When a player is not on the pitch, it is hard to keep motivated, and I felt I needed to go somewhere where I was going to play with joy.”

Jorginho made it clear that his departure was not down to any fallout with Mikel Arteta, but rather a personal decision shaped by his role in the squad.

His comments underline the intensity of competition within Arsenal’s midfield, where established players often find opportunities restricted.

The 32-year-old also addressed Arsenal’s tactical evolution, particularly their growing reliance on set-pieces as a source of goals.

While recognising their effectiveness, he suggested that too much focus on structured routines can impact the overall flow of play.

“It does feel like homework, that is the reality,” he said. “But when you do your homework and then you have the test, you have a good result.”

He emphasised the importance of maintaining a balance between organisation and attacking freedom.

“If you focus just on this and forget about the football side, then of course you are not going to have beautiful football,” he added. “I think it is all about balance.”

Jorginho also shared his thoughts on Arsenal’s ongoing Premier League title challenge, urging the squad to avoid the weight of recent history.

“I hope they forget about the last few years,” he said. “If they think about it, then they could put pressure on themselves.”

He instead encouraged the players to trust their current level and position.

“They should realise how strong they are and what a strong position they are in,” he added.

Jorginho’s remarks offer a candid reflection on his time at Arsenal, while also providing a measured perspective on the team’s style and their chances of finally getting over the line this season.
