Brighton & Hove Albion have looked at Girona’s Azzedine Ounahi repeatedly over the past few years.
The Premier League side had tried to sign him in January 2023 and even looked at him last summer.
In June 2025, Sport Witness covered claims from France of Brighton reaching a verbal agreement with the 25-year-old.
A move didn’t go through, and he ended up joining the La Liga side permanently towards the end of last summer.
The winger has managed four goals and three assists so far in his debut season in Spain.
His La Liga stats are as follows:
Appearances: 17
Starts: 13
Toal minutes: 1,187
Minutes per game: 79
Expected Goals: 1.90
Expected Assists: 2.27
Big chances created: 7
Key passes per game: 1.4
Brighton want to sign Ounahi
Fabian Hürzeler’s side are back in the mix for the winger who has managed four goals and three assists so far in his debut season in Spain.
That’s according to Africa Foot, who state the Seagulls continued to monitor Azzedine Ounahi in action for Girona.
Brighton & Hove Albion believe his technical level, which is appealing to them, would suit them and English football.
Therefore, the English club are ‘determined to make a move’ to sign him in the coming weeks.
He has a €20m release clause in his contract that runs down in 2030. That’s affordable for the Premier League side, considering the Moroccan’s age, profile and qualities.
Atlético Madrid have also been keeping a close watch on the former Marseille man, who turned down RB Leipzig in January.
Brighton seem to be ready to make advances soon, likely to get ahead of Los Rojiblancos.
Girona, for their part, are keen on offer a new contract as he remains a key member of their squad. The Catalan club want to propose fresh terms to avoid losing him for a reasonable price.
Our take: Brighton need to be cautious
Azzedine Ounahi has already rejected RB Leipzig in the winter market and his plan for the summer isn’t made clear yet.
His camp may be using Brighton & Hove Albion, either to put pressure on Atlético Madrid to make advances or to get a better deal from Girona.
If that’s the case, the Amex club could be in for a disappointment, after last summer’s failure.
