Newcastle United skipper Bruno Guimaraes has a chance of facing AFC Bournemouth at St James' Park.

The Brazil star has been missing since February after picking up a hamstring injury in the 2-1 win at Tottenham Hotspur. Since Bruno has been absent, Newcastle's hopes of success have slipped away with exits from the FA Cup and the Champions League.

His task on return will be to inject new life into a bid for Europe, but Newcastle are currently sitting in 14th place in the table. Howe ruled Bruno out for the trip to Crystal Palace and initially Howe did not see him as a contender for the Bournemouth game.

Howe said: "There is a chance he can be fit for the weekend.

"We have seen him in training, he is pushing hard to be involved, he is desperate to help the team, desperate to be involved. So, there is a possibility, I will make a decision off the back of training today."

Howe urged his players to rediscover that winning feeling against the Cherries and said: "We need that feeling back, it has been too long, we are desperate to win, desperate to play well.

"We have had a mixture of feelings this week. A disappointing result at Crystal Palace, there has not been many smiling faces around the training ground this week, but the feeling is one of steely determination to put it right."

Howe will be without the suspended Joelinton after picking up his 10th yellow card within the caution limit during the struggle at Palace.

"PIF also grew assets under management six-fold and attracted global partners and capital to take part in Saudi Arabia’s transformation.

"PIF will continue to support Saudi Vision 2030 objectives by delivering competitive domestic ecosystems, investing in national champions that have the potential to scale globally, and forming global economic partnerships, building on what has been achieved under PIF’s 2021-2025 strategy."

And that strategy includes Newcastle although building a strong team on and off the pitch that operates on Tyneside is part of that plan.
