Having ended March with a 2-0 defeat to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side in the League Cup Final at Wembley Stadium, April has so far largely been an awful month for managerMikel Arteta, the first team squad and most importantly, the Arsenal fans themselves.A further quick defeat to Southampton at St Mary’s in the FA Cup quarter finals put a sharp end to remaining Treble hopes, but fans did have the Champions League quarter final first leg to celebrate with a narrow win over Sporting Lisbon. With the media already full of ‘bottling it’ claims fans could be forgiven for thinking the defeats were a small dip, but everyone’s concerns were magnified with the ridiculous defeat to AFC Bournemouth in our last game. With so much riding on the remaining games,Arsenal tickets without membership can be the easiest route as the remaining available seats are bound to sell out quickly. We have been here before obviously but this really felt like it was our year – and we had even signed a proper dyed in the wool striker to boot – but everyone’s worst nightmares have come to the fore in recent weeks and in amongst all the happy clappy social media guff that the club have been producing recently, the anger, disappointment and frustration at the Emirates Stadium is clear for all to see.Our nine point gap has now shrunk to only six, and we have to bear in mind that not only do we face City in the final run in (a matter of days in reality), they also have a game in hand in their favour with the re-arranged Crystal Palace fixture still to come and we have to assume that they will walk away with all three points from that.A good few weeks ago a lot of the commentator talk was all about whether or not this years’ title could come down to the meeting between City and Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday April 19, or with Palace set to still play both sides whether or not they may be the King maker. Right now, next Sunday’s clash feels like it will be absolutely pivotal in deciding the destination of this years trophy. If we take all three points that lifts a lot of the pressure and will massively improve the mood amongst both players and fans alike, but should the unthinkable happen then if the players and the staff thought that the pressure was now on, well, it will be nothing like the whirlwind that could take place after those 90 minutes. We have been here before, whilst we have a few newbies and fresh faces, this pressure is not new and they should be far better placed to redirect the anger into ensuring that we get ourselves over the line at this time of asking. However, having experienced this before is not a silver bullet nor does it guarantee we will handle it better as those nagging doubts will simply be louder. It is down to the players andArtetato knuckle in and make it happen. It is in their hands and although some fans may have fallen for the deja vu, the vast majority of Gunners out there will be roaring the team on to success and they need to harness that passion and do what they have proved they can do all season long – stay organised, stay together and dig in.We have learned we do not always have to be pretty, now is the time to be positively Fugly and just get it done.
