Senesi's impending availability put a number of top Premier League and European clubs on red alert.
talkSPORT reported earlier in the week how both Spurs and Manchester United were keen on the 28-year-old.
Meanwhile Juventus and Atletico Madrid are also known to be admirers of the Argentina international.
But it appears Tottenham have shot to the front of the queue.

It is understood the north London outfit are in advanced talks to sign Senesi in the summer.
However, the deal hinges on Tottenham's status as a Premier League club.
Spurs sit 18th in the top flight with six games remaining and are two points away from safety.
Senesi is also understood to be very open to joining Spurs but would not be prepared to drop into the Championship.
The Argentinian defender isn't the only player Tottenham look set to sign should they remain in the Premier League.
talkSPORT understands Spurs have a verbal agreement in place to sign Liverpool defender Andy Robertson, but only if they stay up.

Robertson wasready to join Spurs in January but Liverpool were unable to source a replacement and the deal fell through.
The Scotland international has already confirmed he will leave Anfield at the end of the season, bringing the curtain down on a Liverpool career that almost spans a decade.
Robertson and Senesi's potential arrivals signal a major changing of the guard at the back for Tottenham.
Their incumbent left-back options consist of Ben Davies and Destiny Udogie, who have both spent significant time on the sidelines this season.
Davies is also out of contract this summer.
