Josh Acheampong is not getting proper minutes on the pitch after the new Chelsea manager arrived. Experts raised a question. Does Chelsea want to sell him this summer? But reports made a clear stance. That he is not for sale despite less game time.
Josh Acheampong, a rising star from Cobham Academy, Chelsea.
Josh Acheampong is very close to Chelsea. He is their own asset where staff build him step by step. During his training, he worked very hard and at a very young age. He got a promotion to play on the first team. This was a big achievement for him.
His coach Enzo Maresca once spoke very kindly about him. He said Josh Acheampong could play in many positions. Like a full-back, a midfielder, or a central defender. That kind of skill is special. It shows that Josh understands the game well.
Other big clubs try to sign him from time to time. Teams like Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich showed interest in signing him. In the January transfer window, Crystal Palace also tried to add in their squad. Chelsea said no each time because they believe in his future.

Josh Acheampong is fading at Chelsea due to Liam’s strategy
Even with all this praise, Josh has not played many matches this season. His few game times made fans curious. They want to see him grow and shine on the field. Chelsea made a clear stance that Acheampong is not for sale. But after all these big mouths of Chelsea. Acheampong is warmed bench most of the time under new manager Liam.
As per reports, his former Maresca’s used him in more games. This is very crucial for a young player to develop. Last year, in April 2025 when Chelsea beat Liga Warszawa. By his performance in that match Maresca was happy. He said “I have fallen in love” with Acheampong. Maresca also suggested that he could become a top player for both club and Country.
However, that statement is now nearly 1 year. Since then Chelsea played 67 competitive matches but Acheampong has only got a chance in 28. This is not half of the total matches. Under Rosenior his most of his chances have come in form of substitute. Even also against a lower league side Port Vale. In that match fans were thinking he will be in starting 11. But he came in as a substitute.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are planning to sign new centre back Goncalo Inacio. They already have Geovany Quenda and when Recce James will returns where he will play. With all this confusion observers think they may sail Acheampong. But Chelsea’s clear stance that confusion is broken.
In this sceanrio a loan to another club can be a best move. By this he can get more minutes. It will allow Acheampong to gain more experience. Without this his development could slow down. Chelsea can risk losing another academy talent.
Fans want Chelsea to believe in their own academy talent.
On Social media football fans rasing question why he is not getting more minutes. Fans were very upset when he was not in the starting 11. Some fans feel Chelsea are repeating past mistakes by not having faith in their academy players.
The situation also matters for Chelsea’s future. If a young player gets less visibility they may look elsewhere. In this case, we can take reference from Granacho, he left the Premier League club Man Utd due to fewer minutes.

Chelsea’s words should match their actions. If they are prioritising Josh, they should give him more game time. Whether he stays at Stamford Bridge or goes on loan time will reveal that.
