Sorry Robert! Chelsea told to complete signing‘that makes no mistakes’

Chelsea legend Marcel Desailly has told the club they need to target a new goalkeeper in the upcoming summer transfer window, saying current No.1 Robert Sanchez must be replaced by someone who “doesn’t make mistakes” if the Blues are to compete consistently at the top of the Premier League.

Speaking exclusively to GOAL, the 1998 World Cup-winning defender highlighted ***CHELSEA***’s ongoing struggles between the sticks as a major factor in their uneven season. Chelsea have lost three of their last four Premier League games, a run that Desailly linked directly to uncertainty in goal. “No consistency because the goalkeeper is not up to the level,” he said, stressing that errors and indecision have undermined confidence across the back line.

Desailly pointed to the importance of having an experienced, reliable presence in goal, even if the player isn’t a global star, speaking in association with BetVictor Online Casino, told GOAL: “Look, the past four matches, Premier League we are talking about only, they’ve lost three. No consistency.

“You might finish very strong, maybe, and gain a position over Manchester United. You never know, they can drop suddenly from where they are in heaven. Suddenly a miracle has happened.

“But no consistency because the goalkeeper is not up to the level. He made a mistake, he doesn’t come out to give that strength to the defence for [Wesley] Fofana and the others. He’s [Fofana] not even international, first choice in the French national team. He doesn’t drop his level, but it is what it is.

“You need to have international players as first choice in most positions of your team. So that is a problem for Chelsea. As I said, the goalkeeper should be upgraded by experience, even if he’s not a top one, at least be one who doesn’t make mistakes.”

Will Chelsea replace Sanchez?

The Blues are striving to build a competitive squad capable of challenging at the top end of the Premier League and in Europe. That requires a goalkeeper who offers both reliability and leadership from the back; a “safe pair of hands” who can minimise lapses and act as a stable foundation for the defence.

Public voices within the club’s wider circle — including club legend Marcel Desailly — have openly called for a keeper who “doesn’t make mistakes,” highlighting a belief that Chelsea’s current number one hasn’t consistently provided that assurance.

Furthermore, with young prospects like Mike Penders emerging and lining up behind him, CHELSEA see an opportunity to refresh the position and potentially recruit a long-term solution that better fits head coach Liam Rosenior’s tactical demands.

In short, the search for Sanchez’s replacement is driven by a mix of performance concerns, the desire for defensive stability, and a clear strategic reset in the goalkeeping department
