West Ham head coach Nuno Espirito Santo has warned his team not to get ‘complacent’ as they prepare to face Ctystal Palace away in the Premier League.
The Hammers defeated bottom club Wolves comfortably 4-0 last week at home, a result that helped them climb out of the relegation zone.
Despite their encouraging display, Santo will do everything he can to make sure his team do not lose focus of what is ahead of them.
Speaking at his weekly pre match press conference the Hammers boss said : “When you win with a big performance, I don’t think there is a risk of complacency. It is a good and positive thing. We will make sure the squad is focused for the next match and they have to do.”
Santo also said he is not concerned about playing on Monday, a few days after their relegation rivals have played.
Santo added: “It doesn’t change things that we are playing on Monday. Yes, we are the last team to play but I don’t think it will make a difference.”
Santo also believes that Crystal Palace playing away in Europe in mid-week will not make any difference. The Eagles played away to Italian side bologna on Thursday in the UEFA Conference League, a game which thy lose 2-1 but went through 4-2 on Agg.
Santo said: “We watched the game last night. We know Palace well. They are a good team. They play good football. We know they are going to be ready on Monday night”
Santo also said that everyone in the squad need to be leaders and share responsibility.
He added: “We still have six games to go. A lot of work to do. It is the biggest challenge ahead of us. To sustain our level of performance we showed against Wolves.
“It is good that we have leaders like Jarrod Bowen, but all the players need to be leaders and help build confidence around the team.”
West Ham have won three of their last five Premier League games against the Crystal palace. The Hammers next four Premier Legue games will be in London.
