For those of you who enjoyed watching the live stream of West Ham’s U-17s 3-2 defeat of Blackburn Rovers to lift the Premier League Cup on Wednesday night, that win crystallised into something even bigger: history.
With this victory, West Ham became the only [Premier League club](https://www.claretandhugh.info/premier-league-bio/) to win the Premier League Cup at U-21, U-18 and U-17 level.
No one else has done it. And the way the U-17s sealed their part of the treble? Pure West Ham.
Dramatic final seals the moment
-------------------------------
As a reminder, the young Hammers took just 12 minutes to take the lead, with Jude Longman scoring a sharp left-footed strike, which set the tone for a frantic, end-to-end final.
Blackburn hit back hard. Goals from Oliver Flynn and Harvey Higgins flipped the match on its head before the break, leaving West Ham with a mountain to climb. Yet the second half saw the Hammers grow into the game with purpose. Chuk Obi levelled the score, restoring belief and momentum. And then, in the 89th minute, Northern Ireland U-17 international Joel Kerr powered home a header from a Harry Montague cross.
A late winner, a comeback and a trophy!
A decade in the making
----------------------
The journey to this historic treble began a decade earlier. In 2016, West Ham’s U-21s lifted the Premier League Cup, which was played over two legs and finished 1-1 on aggregate, eventually beating Hull City 5-3 on penalties.
Fast-forward to 2025, and the U-18s added their own chapter to the story, with a 2-1 victory against Reading thanks to a brace by Josh Ajala.
West Ham stand alone
--------------------
And now, with the U-17s completing the set, West Ham United stand alone.
The only Premier League club to win the Premier League Cup at U-21, U-18 and U-17 level.
This is not just a statistic. It is a statement.
