"Definitely" - BlueCo set to make exciting double signing for Chelsea this summer - Ornstein

Chelsea are set to stick by Liam Rosenior this summer and hand the manager two new signings as a priority, according to The Athletic's David Ornstein.

Eghbali throws support behind Rosenior

Chelsea co-owner Behdad Eghbali gave his backing to Rosenior and said he still believes the head coach can be successful despite recent results that have threatened the club’s Champions League qualification hopes.

The team have won one of their last seven games in the Premier League and have slipped four points outside the top five ahead of Saturday’s fixture at home to Manchester United.

Rosenior, who was appointed in January following the abrupt sacking of Enzo Maresca on New Year’s Day, enjoyed a promising start but a downturn began when the Blues were beaten 5-2 away by Paris St Germain in the Champions League in March, and so far the former Hull and Strasbourg boss has been unable to arrest the slide.

Speaking at CAA’s World Congress of Sports conference in Los Angeles on Thursday, Eghbali said: “On Liam, we had the opportunity to work with him daily for 18 plus months, so we knew what we were getting. We think he has every attribute to be successful here.

“He got off to a great start. We’ve had a tough past five, six matches, but I think we’re behind Liam. Of course, it’s a results business, but we think he can be successful long term.”

It is almost four years since BlueCo – a consortium led by Todd Boehly and Eghbali’s Clearlake Capital – bought the club from former owner Roman Abramovich and began a comprehensive overhaul of the squad, personnel and the recruitment policy.

The Blues are keen on an "outstanding" player.

That transfer policy has come under much scrutiny as they continue to recruit young players with high ceilings on long contracts, and Ornstein has revealed plans for at least two more signings this summer.

Chelsea set to sign new forward and centre-back this summer

Indeed, according to The Athletic reporter, BlueCo will splash out on at least two key signings in the next transfer window - one up front and one in the heart of defence.

"Definitely expecting an attacker and a centre-back, the attacker perhaps being versatile as opposed to an out-and-out striker."

A major criticism of the current owners' work in the market has been the addition of versatile attackers without a clear position.

That said, there have been some success stories too, with Joao Pedro, Cole Palmer and Pedro Neto all showing superstar potential at times.

If Rosenior can find the perfect fourth attack to partner that trio while at the same time upgrading at centre-back, the manager can have no excuses about his side's performances next season.
