“Pressure..” – Daniel Farke perfectly echoes Leeds United mentality from exactly one year ago

Daniel Farke has demonstrated an incredibly level head throughout his time as Leeds United manager, and tomorrow’s game with Wolves is no different.

When the full-time whistle blew at Old Trafford on Monday, the cameras immediately panned to Daniel Farke in his technical area.

The Leeds boss sunk to his knees with the most animated celebration we’ve seen since he joined the club. He knew the magnitude of that win, in the context of the survival battle, and against that opponent.

“Pressure” – Daniel Farke calls for calm heads as Leeds United take on Wolves on Saturday

Going from such a high of beating Man Utd at Old Trafford, to then addressing the task at hand against 20th-placed Wolves at home, is a stark contrast.

Wolves, though, aren’t playing in 2026 like a side consigned to relegation. This calendar year, they’ve only collected two fewer points than us, and everyone’s talking about how well we’ve been playing in that time.

Ahead of the game, Farke discussed the idea of pressure, and how he ensures his squad go from Monday’s euphoria to managing Saturday’s game to the same standard.

“Fire is burning inside but no one wants a nervous manager jumping on the sideline,” Farke said, per the YEP.

“Everyone wants me to take decisions in a calm and focused manner, not over-emotional. You have to deal with pressure, experience always helps. Normal if you’re playing top or bottom of the table, you have pressure in every game.”

Exactly a year ago, Leeds were gearing up for what would be an incredibly memorable Easter weekend in the Championship promotion race.

First, Leeds headed down to Oxford United on the night of Good Friday, before welcoming Stoke City to Elland Road on Easter Monday. We all know what happened that bank holiday, as we won both games and secured promotion back to the top flight.

Prior to that game against Oxford, Farke’s comments perfectly mirror what he’s saying this week ahead of Wolves.

“Not just calmness, we want the fire to be burning,” Farke said, per the YEP. “We always speak about what we can improve. But it’s important in this hectic business, when you work and play for such an emotional club, you take the emotion out of the decisions, in an objective and neutral way.

“No-one is overreacting. Never too high, never too low is a good mantra.”

Daniel Farke must ensure level heads to get Leeds United survival job completed

What you see here is the ideal mindset for a manager in our position. We’ve just won at Old Trafford for the first time in the league since 1981, but there’s no room to get carried away.

Farke knew how big that win was, but it’s only going ot keep us up if we follow it up by doing the business against Wolves tomorrow afternoon.

The manner in which Farke addresses these sorts of situations gives me confidence he will see the job through, though.

When the pressure’s on, he’s typically been the last one to lean into it.
