Tottenham have set their sights on signing ‘this’ Bournemouth star on a free transfer.
Tottenham Hotspur’s Premier League status is now precarious to say the least, but that hasn’t stopped the Spurs hierarchy from planning for the upcoming summer transfer window.
The Lilywhites already have a verbal agreement in place with Andy Robertson, who is set to leave Liverpool on a free transfer in June. They were keen on adding Robertson to their defensive ranks during the January transfer window itself, but failing to sort out an adequate replacement meant that the Scottish left-back stayed put at Anfield.
It is clear that Tottenham want to reinforce their defensive unit after the disastrous season they’ve had. After Robertson, the North London chiefs have been busy bringing in Bournemouth central defender Marcos Senesi at the end of the season. The 28-year-old is out of contract at the Vitality Stadium in the summer and plans to join a new club as a free agent.
The Argentine is set to head into the summer as a coveted commodity, and recent reports have revealed that Tottenham are one of the clubs showing the ‘most interest’ in him. And now there has been further developments over Tottenham’s interest in Marcos Senesi.
Tottenham in advanced talks to sign Marcos Senesi
According to the reputable Athletic journalist David Ornstein, Tottenham are in advanced talks to sign Senesi on a free transfer from Bournemouth. However, an agreement will depend on their ability to avoid Premier League relegation. Nothing has been finalised so far, with other clubs also vying for the defender’s signature.
Senesi has been linked with Manchester United, Chelsea, Barcelona and Juventus, but Tottenham are leading the race. The Argentina international has been a reliable performer for the Cherries since joining from Feyenoord in 2022. He has been a mainstay in Andoni Iraola’s side this season, and the defender produced a Man of the Match display in Bournemouth’s shock 2-1 win over league leaders Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium last weekend.
Tottenham are currently 18th in the Premier League table, languishing two points from safety with six games to go. Although De Zerbi has vowed to stay if they go down to the Championship, attracting players of Senesi’s quality and capability will be difficult. The Lilywhites have seemingly beaten off the interest from the aforementioned clubs to enter into advanced talks with the South American star’s camp.

Cristian Romero out, Marcos Senesi in?
Tottenham have been woeful defensively, and part of the reason for their struggles has been Cristian Romero’s indiscipline and inconsistency. The 2022 World Cup winner started the season very well, but it would be fair to say he has been one of Spurs’ worst performers in recent months.
Romero has been sent off twice this season, while making several poor decisions on and off the ball that cost his team several valuable points. Yet, he remains highly regarded across Europe, with Atletico Madrid keen on signing the 27-year-old.
Spurs would definitely need to add to their centre-back ranks in the summer, and the club bosses appearing focused on bringing in Senesi all but confirms that Romero will be out of the door. Having sustained a season-ending injury last weekend, there is a high possibility that the Argentine star has played his final game in our famous white strip.
