West Ham centre-back Konstantinos Mavropanos is “open” to returning to Germany this summer, according to reports.

Sky Sport Deutschland claims that the Greek international is a “candidate” to leave the London Stadium at the end of the season, with his price tag set at €30m (£26m).

Several Bundesliga teams are said to have signalled their interest in Mavropanos, who moved from Stuttgart to join the Hammers in the summer of 2023.

The former Arsenal player has been in excellent form in recent months, and along with centre-back partner Axel Disasi, he has been a key player in helping his team out of the drop zone.

Mavropanos is set to be offered a new deal

Trusted inside source ExWHUEmployee has reported that the Irons are hoping to tempt the 28-year-old into staying by handing him a contract extension.

Mavropanos is closing in on the final two years of his current deal, so it is the right time to tie him down for the longer term.

However, it appears the Greek may well have had his head turned by interest from elsewhere. Of course, West Ham will have a much better chance of persuading him to stay if they do retain their top-flight status.

The perception of the West Ham player has radically changed

Many supporters had labelled him as another failure of Tim Steidten’s tenure as sporting director. His lack of pace and less-than-stellar technical ability were exposed in the systems that Julen Lopetegui and Graham Potter deployed.

However, Mavropanos has begun to thrive under Nuno Espirito Santo, whose disciplined tactical approach has got the best out of the centre-back, as well as Disasi.

Even last summer, the majority of the fanbase would have been willing to let him leave, but it’s a very different story now.
