Journalist says Manchester City player Everton want to sign this summer is now "gone for sure"

Everton are sniffing around the free agent market heading into the summer transfer window.

The Toffees like Marco Senesi – who is leaving Bournemouth when his contract expires at the end of the season – but a deal will be tough as Tottenham enter advanced talks for the Argentine.

There is an alternative for David Moyes in former Toffee John Stones – and The Athletic now confidently state that the England international will definitely be leaving Manchester City as Everton express interest in a reunion.

Would a return for John Stones on a free make any sense for Everton? 🧐

His experience could prove priceless! 🏆

Everton target John Stones is “gone for sure” as Manchester City prepare announcement

It was TEAMtalk who claimed that Everton want Stones this summer if the 31-year-old were to leave the Etihad Stadium, and Sam Lee of The Athletic has now revealed the defender is “gone for sure” as Manchester City prepare to announce his departure.

The reliable journalist wrote: “Stones is gone for sure, yes, but I guess it’s just a question of how he and the club want to handle the announcement. I presume it will happen before the Villa game so he can get a proper send-off as well.”

It would be tempting to snap Stones up on a free transfer, although The Friedkin Group must be wary of his injury record.

The Barnsley academy graduate has missed 18 games this season due to thigh problems, only managing to make 15 appearances for Manchester City.

Not only that, but Stones earns £250,000-a-week under Pep Guardiola, and considering free agents usually receive an inflated salary anyway when joining a new club due to the lack of a transfer fee, he may demand the same amount to move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium, if not more.

How confident on a scale of 1-10 are you that Moyes signs a new deal?😬

1 being he won't sign and 10 being confident he'll ink a new contract!

In that respect, Everton need to be wary of succumbing to sentiment when it comes to the Manchester City No.5 this summer.
