Newcastle United v Bournemouth referee confirmed - a good omen for the Magpies?

The PGMOL have confirmed the team of officials that will oversee Newcastle United’s home game with Bournemouth this weekend.

Newcastle United will face Bournemouth in a high pressure Premier League clash on Saturday - and the appointment of referee Tom Bramall will offer some positivity for the Magpies as they look for a rare win over the Cherries.

United boss Eddie Howe has not beaten the club where he made his name as a manager in a Premier League fixture since taking charge at St James Park in November 2011 after losing two and drawing five of the seven meetings between his former and current employers.

Newcastle did come out on top in a Carabao Cup tie with Bournemouth in December 2022 and came through an FA Cup third round tie against Andoni Iraola’s side earlier this year thanks to a penalty shoot-out win. The two sides shared six goals over an eventful 120 minutes before Magpies goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale saved three penalties to help his side to a 10-9 shoot-out win.

Sheffield-born referee Tom Bramall oversaw that tie as he handed out six yellow cards and award a penalty to Newcastle after Sandro Tonali was upended by Cherries keeper Djordje Petrovic. Bramall will be back on Tyneside this weekend after being named as the man in the middle for Saturday’s St James Park clash and the PGMOL have also confirmed Bramall will be assisted by Simon Bennett and Mark Stevens. Bobby Madley will be on fourth official duties less than a week after his brother Andy was the man in the middle for Newcastle’s defeat at Crystal Palace. Matt Donohue has been appointed as VAR official and his assistant will be Dan Robathan.
